We plan to post news about our swimmer's achievements on this page. If you know of a swimmer who should be "In the Spotlight", please email the webmaster with the details. We would like to tell our membership how great we think our swimmers are and what they are accomplishing, both in
and out of the water.

Jacob Van Hemelryck recently became the first wheelchair athlete to compete in the Idaho State High School Track & Field Championships. He competed in the 800 meters with two athletes from Spokane, WA. Jacob was interviewed by KTVB prior to the race. Follow this link to see the video: http://www.ktvb.com/video/index.html?nvid=251445

In July, Jacob will also be competing in the Can-Am Swimming Championships in Victoria, British Columbia. Five days later he is off to New Jersey to compete in the National Junior Disability Championships (NJDC). Jacob was also selected as a member of Team USA to compete in the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation's World Games which will be held at the same time and venues as the NJDC.  Jacob will be competing in swimming, track, field, and weight lifting.

Daryl Vogel will be leaving the team and embarking on a 2-1/2 year bicycle trip with his family.  The Vogels will begin their journey in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and will take 30 months to bicycle 20,000 miles to Ushuaia, Argentina.  When they complete their trip, Daryl and his brother Davy will become Guinness World Record holders for the youngest people to cycle the Pan American Highway.  To follow their journey and read their blog, go to www.familyonbikes.org.

In the Thursday, February 28th, Idaho Statesman there is an insert entitled "Womens History
(Her-story) Month 2008". The insert contains articles about the 2008 honorees as selected by the BSU Women's Center.  Swim Team Parent Susan Smith was selected as an honoree this year.  Please take the time to read this article about one of the swim team's most dedicated volunteers.  We are so fortunate her children decided to take up swimming!  Statesman Article
