Other Aquatic Programs Closely Associated With the BOISE YMCA SWIM TEAM

West Y/BCAC Competitive Stroke Classes.  The West Y/Boise City Aquatic Center offers Competitive Stroke Classes for kids who want to develop better technique in the four competitive strokes, starts and turns.

West Y/BCAC Summer League Team.  The West Y/Boise City Aquatic Center sponsors a summer league team that starts in June and finishes with the City Championships on the last weekend in July.

·       The league is sponsored by the Boise Recreation Department, and the Y Summer team competes with other area summer teams from the different pool facilities.

·       This is a novice league and many of our Boise Y swimmers started their careers with summer league experiences.

·       One of the league’s rules states that if a swimmer swims for a “year round” team (i.e., Boise Y Swim Team) past January 1 of that year, that swimmer is not eligible for summer league.

High School Swimming.  Several years ago, parents of the Boise Y Swim Team were instrumental in organizing high school competition (grade 9-12) in the state of Idaho.

·         It is a “Club” sport at the participating high schools, but the swimmers can earn a sport letter.  Today, over 500 swimmers in Idaho represent their respective high schools and we encourage all eligible swimmers to swim for their schools.  Because HS swimming is a club sport, parents must provide the financial support.

·         Swimmers from the Boise YMCA Swim Team represent different high schools in the valley!  From mid-August through October, high school swimmers have weekly dual meet competition, follow by a District Meet and then the State Championships.  State has qualifying standards.

·         The lettering systems are in accordance to the policies for each school.

·         Boise Y swimmers can train with both their high school team and with the Y Team.

·         Home schooled students can swim for the public high school they otherwise would have attended.

·         For your high school’s specific information, call the school and find out who are the faculty advisor, team parent coordinator and coach.  They can give you details.

Masters Swimming.  Parents…this is your chance to have your kids cheer for you!  Masters Swimming is for all adults 19 – 119 and is a great way to stay in shape. Former Boise Y swimmers have gone on to be national champions and world record holders in Masters competition!  Contact either YMCA for details.

Water Polo.  The West Family YMCA offers water polo practices on a year round basis.  This is a great sport; all ages and abilities (from novice to former collegiate All-Americans) do participate including several Boise Y swimmers.  Practices are on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings.  Contact the West Y Aquatics for details.

Special Olympics Swimming Championships.  Boise YMCA swimmers help out with the Special Olympic Swimming Championships, which provide a wonderful chance for our kids to give something back.

Competitive Diving Classes.  The West Y/BCAC offers competitive diving classes on a regular basis.  Contact the Aquatics office for details.
